I would classify it as an ordinary day. We were doing home visits with a few women that had either graduated from the tailoring program, or their husband had been apart of the men’s program. These woman have needs, they have BIG prayers, they have a lot of unimaginable things happening, BUT we were able to simply go to their homes and outpour His love. There truly is something beautiful when it comes to home visits. The act of GOING and SITTING with them takes effort, and it shows such a deep level of intentionality that sending a text or calling cannot provide.

We had to hire drivers to take us to the locations, coordinated with different members of the ministry so that we had translators, and be entirely intentional of praying and asking the Holy Spirit to go before us.  We had to TRUST that we would get to these women’s homes and they would actually be there because there wasn’t always a guarantee. It seems like a small thing, but truly it wasn’t. It was a big thing for us to be in the homes with each of these women.

When arriving to the first home, we were immediately welcomed into her very small sitting space, some of us on the ground on blankets, and others on benches pressed against the wall. No windows, and the only entrance was to the outside room of the house. Essentially this was the “front room”.  This woman, we will call her Uwera (meaning Holy One), was a mother of two little ones; a five year old girl and a fresh three month old baby boy . Amidst the adjustment to a newborn baby, a very detrimental false assumption was brought forward against her husband. Uwera’s husband was being detained for being accused of murdering a child, and his court date was the very next day.

As you can image, the judicial system here is interesting to say the least, and a lot of us were both frustrated and confused as to how he could have even been detained. However, in that statement alone it was clear that the enemy was after something within this home and within this family.

And he made his presence known very quickly after our arrival.

As Glinda, our ministry host, was sharing a few verses in Psalms, all of a sudden this man stumbled into the center of the room. Looking around at each of us, and bringing in an obvious aroma of cigarettes and alcohol. Quickly, the words came out of his mouth, calmly, and in clear English, “You are Christians here to evangelize. Ya, ya, you are f*ing American’s.”.

Before we even said anything, he immediately knew we were Christian’s. He immediately knew we weren’t European, but he knew we were American’s. He spoke English, without much of a Kinyarwanda accent either.

When asking Uwera quietly, she said that she had never seen this man before, and she had never even seen him amongst the village that they lived in.

For roughly thirty seconds he was kind of bouncing back and forth in the room, before he choose to sit in the center of all of us on the ground. Once he settled in, he began to make this rounding serpent like motion a couple times through, before speaking again.

“My name is Triple 6.”

You’ve got to be kidding me was my first thought, and then I laughed! I honestly shouldn’t have been surprised, because Satan really is not that creative of a guy. For him to just walk into the center of this house, to give off serpent-like tendencies, to know the Spirit of God in this room, and to name himself as Triple 6. Seriously?! So yes, I am going to laugh, because the enemy is not a threat… EVER. He blatantly in this moment succumbed and acknowledged to the power of Jesus, and was unable to hide himself from the authority of God.

Let me repeat this, but also clarify this. We never asked him his name, and we never told him we were Christians. HE KNEW, and in that it makes me think of the story of Jesus healing the two men with demons in Luke 8:28-31 (parallel to Matthew 8:28). In this story, Jesus enters into the country of Gadarenes and is immediately approached by demon possessed men. In the Book of Matthew it is stated that these men could not be stopped, and that no one else could pass the way.

This man, Triple 6, was not stopped by any of the members of the village. He stormed, and was immediately drawn to what was happening within Uwera’s home.

So what do the demon possessed men do when they finally approach Jesus? They acknowledge Him, and His clear authority.

“”What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me.”” Luke 8:28

“You are Christians here to evangelize.” AGAIN, he did not just know the power of Jesus in the room, but also the power of Jesus within each of us. That alone is an AMEN. In this story, Jesus goes on to cast out the demons into a herd of pigs who ultimately commit suicide by rushing into a lake and drowning. In our experience with Triple 6, it was not to this caliber… BUT it was incredible how he responded to the power of Jesus.

Glinda simply stood up, in the authority of God, and said, “ In the name of Jesus, it is time for you to go.”

And you know what he did! Oh my… he literally stood up so quickly and just walked out of the door. NOT SAYING ANYTHING. In Jesus name, the demon… satan… the enemy… whatever you want to call it, submitted to the authority that Jesus has instilled into each of us.

We then finished our time with sweet Uwera and her family, praying and prophesying over them, but when we left Triple 6 was no where to be found. Gone, the end.

And the best part of all of this was that Satan in fact has no hold on this family, because Uwera’s husband was released a few days later after the court day. Rightfully free of any charge.

  1. Isn’t it fun…and oh so impacting, to experience the same type of thing that Jesus experienced when demons are around. This is a story to tuck in your memory and pull out when Satan tries to cause you to doubt. What a powerful experience! Thanks for sharing!!
